this is the simple way to make a gradient text (text effect tutorial), by this cool tutorial, you can modify this tutorial for your Neon Text effect, like aagimp logo up there. by the way, let try to make it….
1. make new document, with your size, up to you, then make a new blank layer, and delete the background layer
2. make a gradient by pressing L on your keyboard, and make it horizontally
3. then make a new text, for the cool fonts, specially for Ubuntu lovers, try to install it on Laptop guide here
4. after that, right click on your text layer, then choose “alpha to selection”
5. then go to your gradient layer, press Ctrl+I (inverse)
6. delete the selection and disable/invisible the text layer…
7. Done!!!simple, isn’t it?? check the newest gradient text trick here

I got as far as deleting the selection (step 6) – but HOW do you delete it? Your directions, while short, aren't very clear.
